Engineering Manager | Kent | Competitive Salary + Bonus + Excellent Benefits Lead a multidisciplinary R&D and Design team developing highly specialised engineering solutions from concept through to manufacture.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Engineering Manager, Head of Engineering, R&D Manager, Design Manager or Technical Manager seeking a leadership role with significant influence across innovation, product development and engineering strategy. The company may also consider ambitious and talented Senior Engineers and Lead Engineers looking to step up to a Managerial role.

You’ll lead a diverse team of Mechanical Engineers, Electronics Engineers, Software Engineers and Physicists, ensuring the successful delivery of complex engineering projects while helping shape future technology development and engineering excellence.

The Engineering Manager Role

You will lead the Research, Design and Development function, providing technical leadership, people management and strategic direction across multidisciplinary engineering activities.

Responsibilities will include:

Leading and developing multidisciplinary teams across Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Software Engineering and Physics.

Creating a high-performance engineering culture focused on innovation and technical excellence.

Managing engineering resources across multiple projects and development programmes.

Overseeing complex engineering projects from concept, design and validation through to manufacture and installation.

Supporting technical decision-making, design reviews and system-level engineering activities.

Ensuring engineering solutions are robust, manufacturable, adhere to Design for Manufacture (DFM) commercially viable and compliant with relevant standards.

Driving continuous improvement across engineering processes, documentation, governance and design methodologies.

Identifying and mitigating technical risks while maintaining quality, cost and delivery objectives.

Contributing to technology roadmaps, innovation programmes and long-term engineering strategy.

Supporting budgeting, resource planning, business growth initiatives and technical proposals.

Championing engineering best practice, safety and quality standards throughout the organisation.

Mentoring engineers and supporting career development across the engineering function.

About You

You will be an experienced engineering leader with a proven track record of managing multidisciplinary technical teams within an R&D, product development or advanced manufacturing environment.

Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Physics or a related engineering discipline.

Significant experience working within multidisciplinary engineering and product development environments.

Previous experience leading engineering, design or technical teams.

Strong understanding of engineering lifecycle, product development and project delivery processes.

Experience delivering complex engineering projects involving multiple technical disciplines.

Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.

A collaborative leadership style with the ability to develop high-performing teams.

Desirable Experience

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

ISO 9001 design and development environments.

Scientific instrumentation, precision engineering, advanced manufacturing or specialist technology sectors.

Electromagnetic systems, electronics, vacuum systems or high-specification engineered products.

Transitioning products from R&D into production.

Continuous improvement and engineering process optimisation.
