About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Housing Options Team. We are looking for a part-time, permanent member of staff to join our proactive Homeless Prevention service. The successful candidate will work the end part of the week – Thursday and Friday, with a half day on Wednesday.

With the introduction of the Renters Rights Act 2025 on 1 May 2026, you will be involved in providing accurate advice to applicants and landlords regarding this. As an innovative, motivated, excellent communicator, you will also be responsible for assisting households who have been accepted by the authority as at risk of homelessness or homeless to resolve their housing situation.

This could involve a move within the private rented sector or sustaining their current accommodation, holding a caseload and supporting applicants to find a housing solution as part of their Personalised Housing Plans in line with the Homeless Reduction Act 2017.

Duties may include

  • Promote a range of incentives to landlords to encourage them to let their properties to potentially homeless or vulnerable households
  • Offer support where appropriate and negotiate with landlords and tenants to avoid tenancy breakdowns
  • Organise your own workload and multi-task, liaising both internally and externally with partners

The ideal candidate

  • Enthusiastic and hardworking, with the ability to organise your own workload
  • Strong and effective communication skills and computer literacy
  • Able to work within a team or independently while representing Thanet District Council professionally
