Canterbury City Council is looking to appoint two independent Non-Executive Directors to the Board of the Canterbury Environment Services Company Limited (Canenco), a Local Authority Trading Company owned by the Council with contracts to provide waste collection, recycling, street cleansing, grounds maintenance and environmental services.
Director or Management level experience with a market leader or a large local authority environmental services department in:
Strong commercial and contracting expertise in service contracts, fleet and asset management, operational efficiency and productivity improvement, supplier management and performance benchmarking. Independent corporate governance experience, with strong knowledge of a Director's duties under the Companies Act 2006, board effectiveness, governance assurance and shareholder relationships.
Given the independent nature of this role, you should not have been a Councillor or officer of Canterbury City Council or any other local authority within the last five years, and should have no current or significant previous personal, legal, business or contractual relationship with the Council that might represent a conflict of interest. Applicants must be aged 18 or over and not active in local or national politics.
The appointment will be for an initial period of three years, with potential to be extended. You may be required to be contactable during normal working hours and to attend meetings, which may be held in the daytime or evening at least once a month.
