Job type: Full-time

Trusted Recruiter is recruiting on behalf of a major international manufacturer and highly established brand within the healthcare, accessibility and independent-living market.

Our client is a substantial, well-resourced organisation with an excellent reputation for quality, innovation and premium engineered solutions. The wider organisation has a significant UK and international presence and an established brand recognised by professionals across its markets.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within a specialist healthcare division for a Sales Director to lead an established national sales team and deliver an ambitious growth strategy across the UK.

The opportunity

This is a hands-on sales leadership position with responsibility for an established team of 6 Area Sales Managers operating nationally, with plans to further develop and grow the team.

The division provides a specialist premium solution designed to support independence, accessibility and quality of life within the home environment. The sales process is highly consultative and specification-led, with the team working closely with Occupational Therapists, Local Authorities, Technical Officers, specialist distributors, adaptation companies, installers and other healthcare professionals.

A significant part of the growth strategy will focus on increasing market share within the Local Authority and DFG-funded adaptations market, including developing currently underrepresented territories.

The existing sales team is mature and includes several experienced, long-standing team members. The successful candidate will need to be an excellent people manager who can build trust and credibility, understand individual personalities and motivate an established team while introducing the structure and strategy required to achieve further growth.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, motivate and develop a national team of 6 Area Sales Managers.
  • Deliver an ambitious growth plan focused on increasing market share within the specialist healthcare and adaptations sector.
  • Develop and implement the national sales strategy, identifying both established and under-developed regions.
  • Work closely with Marketing to develop annual sales and marketing strategies and campaigns to support market growth.
  • Set clear individual and team objectives, sales targets and KPIs, supported by regular one-to-one meetings and performance reviews.
  • Coach team members and create appropriate individual training and development plans.
  • Ensure regional sales activity and opportunities are effectively recorded and managed through the CRM system.
  • Ensure the team delivers high-quality demonstrations, training and support to relevant healthcare professionals and specialist partners.
  • Identify strategic key accounts and personally manage selected national/key accounts and specialist distribution relationships.
  • Develop relationships with Occupational Therapists, Local Authorities, Technical Officers, specialist distributors, installation/adaptation companies and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Monitor competitor activity, market developments and sector trends; analyse sales and market data to shape commercial strategy.
  • Present sales plans, performance and strategic recommendations to the senior leadership/executive team.
  • Support recruitment and expansion of the sales team as the division grows.
  • Manage relevant regional sales and point-of-sale budgets.
  • Represent the organisation at relevant industry exhibitions, conferences and trade shows.

Experience required

Our preferred candidate will already be operating at Sales Director, Head of Sales, National Sales Manager or a comparable senior sales leadership level, ideally within a healthcare, specification-led or similarly consultative sales environment.

You should be able to demonstrate a proven track record of delivering sales growth through the successful leadership and development of a sales team, rather than solely through your own individual sales performance.

We would also consider an exceptional Sales Manager or experienced Sales Team Leader who has significant hands-on people-management responsibility and can demonstrate that they are ready to make the step into a broader national and strategic leadership position. Previous formal people-management experience is essential; this position would not be suitable for an individual salesperson looking to move into their first management role.

  • Current or previous experience at Sales Director, Head of Sales, National Sales Manager or similar senior sales management level.
  • A proven track record of leading a sales team and delivering measurable sales growth.
  • Strong experience in managing, motivating, coaching and developing salespeople.
  • The ability to take leadership of an experienced and established team, build credibility and earn the trust of long-standing team members.
  • Experience setting and managing sales targets, KPIs, objectives and performance measures.
  • The ability to identify individual strengths and development requirements and get the best from each member of your team.
  • Experience developing and implementing sales strategies and commercial business plans.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales and market data and determine the appropriate strategic approach.
  • Experience of key-account management and developing senior stakeholder relationships.
  • Experience working collaboratively with Marketing and other internal functions to deliver commercial objectives.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, including presenting strategy, performance and recommendations at Executive/Senior Leadership level.
  • Experience recruiting, onboarding and developing sales talent.

Also considered

We are keen to hear from ambitious Sales Managers and experienced Sales Team Leaders who may not yet hold a Sales Director title but can demonstrate significant responsibility for the day-to-day leadership of a sales team, a strong record of improving performance, and involvement in sales planning, target setting, KPIs and performance management. For these candidates, this could represent an excellent opportunity to make a genuine step up into Sales Director-level responsibility within a substantial and highly established international organisation.

Sector experience

Previous experience within a healthcare specification-led sales environment is strongly preferred. Particularly relevant backgrounds could include healthcare, medical devices, assistive technology, mobility, rehabilitation, accessibility, adaptations, independent living or community equipment.

Experience working commercially with Occupational Therapists, Local Authorities, NHS/community healthcare professionals, Technical Officers, specialist distributors or adaptation providers would be particularly attractive. Knowledge of the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) and Local Authority adaptations market would also be a significant advantage.

Package and benefits

  • £55,000 - £65,000 basic salary, depending on experience
  • 22% bonus, linked to a combination of company and personal objectives
  • Company car
  • Private healthcare
  • 26 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • Ability to buy and sell additional holiday
  • Company pension scheme
  • Company share scheme
  • Employee rewards and discount programme
  • Long-service recognition
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Strong organisational focus on employee health and wellbeing
  • National position with flexibility on home location
